It's really exciting to be able to officially announce this. I (Brett) have been working with the Posterous guys for a while now and am very happy to be joining the team. Slinkset is in good hands and Posterous has more exciting things coming down the pipe than I can even keep track off.
On a bittersweet note, I don't get to work with John on a day to day basis anymore. But I'm sure he's on to bigger and better things and we'll figure out how to collaborate in the future.
Oh. And thanks to blog import and imminently pending theming this blog has a new home.
Slinkset is elated to be part of Posterous!

That's right, our friends at Silicon Alley Insider are using slinkset to let users submit companies they would like to nominate, or vote on companies that have already been nominated. There are 5 different categories that a company can be nominated for and there is 1 special category for the individual. To learn more about this and to find out what the categories are...please check out this post over at SAI.
Winners to be announced live at their 2009 Startup Conference at NYU on June 3rd.
Good luck to all the nominees!

Ads
April 29th, 2009
We're going to be experimenting with adding ads to sites in the near future. Only new sites and existing sites that aren't using their sidebar should be effected. If you're an existing user who's not using the sidebar on your site and you have concerns, please feel free to get in touch.

FindingBibi.slinkset.com
Submit and vote on ideas to help empower women. We'll make the winning idea a reality!

"The upcoming film Finding Bibi follows filmmaker Bita Haidarian, a girl who knows more about MTV than Al Jazeera, as she smashes worldwide stereotypes about women in the Middle East. The overwhelming trailer response has inspired us to build a movement around the movie."Once you've watched the trailer at FindingBibi.com you can click the 'Discuss' button on their site to go to the slinkset they have created for their viewers to tell them about moments you’ve been inspired that you’d want others to experience. They will take the highest-impact idea and change real people’s lives with it. The movie is still in post-production, but check out the trailer for sure... it's only 3:04 and super interesting. I think it's pretty impressive what she is out there doing.

Hahagreat.com : the best stuff on the web
The creators of this site are relying on donations instead of ads to help them as the continue to build their community.
"We are asking for donations instead of running ads. Ads and donations amount to the same thing, money. We believe that a donation powered site contributes more to a sense of community than an ad based site. Ads also take people away from the site where WE want to keep you coming back to our site."
Feel free to read more here about what they are doing.

J-Startup News The latest on journalism startups and new business models for news
"JStartup news, a place for news people to discuss, rate, and share news and commentary about journalism startups, new business models for news, hacker journalism and anything else that falls along these lines."
J-Startup News was created by Brad Flora. He is a journalist working on a startup news aggregator and blog network in Chicago called The Windy Citizen. I strongly suggest people check out his site, it's really slick.
At J-Startup News there is some great content being posted about what's going on in the world of news and journalism, both on and offline. The comment threads are very insightful and I encourage everyone to take the time to read through some of them.

Slinkset Site Thursdays
March 5th, 2009
We have been seeing some cool sites being created using slinkset. Our users are coming up with creative uses and designs and we think it's only right to share those with you all. Some of them have already been featured at random times on this blog here, here and here. But I think it's time to establish a set day each week to feature a different slinkset site.
Born... Slinkset Site Thursdays!
For our first installement I'd like to introduce Okupy.com
"Okupy (pronounced oc·cu·py) brings you all the cool, funny, and sometimes dirty links that you're too lazy/ashamed to look for."
These guys killed it on re-styling their slinkset site. One other thing to note is that they change their sub-title all the time with hilarious one liners. I find myself coming back everyday just to see what witty line they put up.
Great job guys!

Boring stuff - impending feed posting limits
March 4th, 2009
We want to give everyone a heads up that we'll be imposing a limit on the number of items posted via feeds per day per account in the near future. We haven't finalized exactly what the limit will be, but it probably will not effect most users; we've simply got too many zombie accounts loaded with RSS feeds consuming resources. If your site depends on a extremely heavy feed posting, please feel free to touch base with us soon.
