Slinkset Site Thursdays

by brett gibson ~ March 5th, 2009
We have been seeing some cool sites being created using slinkset.  Our users are coming up with creative uses and designs and we think it's only right to share those with you all.  Some of them have already been featured at random times on this blog here, here and here.  But I think it's time to establish a set day each week to feature a different slinkset site. Born... Slinkset Site Thursdays! For our first installement I'd like to introduce Okupy.com
"Okupy (pronounced oc·cu·py) brings you all the cool, funny, and sometimes dirty links that you're too lazy/ashamed to look for." These guys killed it on re-styling their slinkset site.  One other thing to note is that they change their sub-title all the time with hilarious one liners.  I  find myself coming back everyday just to see what witty line they put up. Great job guys!

Boring stuff - impending feed posting limits

by brett gibson ~ March 4th, 2009
We want to give everyone a heads up that we'll be imposing a limit on the number of items posted via feeds per day per account in the near future. We haven't finalized exactly what the limit will be, but it probably will not effect most users; we've simply got too many zombie accounts loaded with RSS feeds consuming resources. If your site depends on a extremely heavy feed posting, please feel free to touch base with us soon.

by brett gibson ~ January 31st, 2009
We are aware that slinkset.com is down currently. And we're looking into, we'll update you when we know more. Sorry about this. UPDATE: Looks like it's an issue with our DNS provider.  We're waiting for them to get things back online. UPDATE #2: Looks like our DNS provider is back up and things are running again...some of the CSS might take little while to catch up.  Thanks for bearing with us.

Categories!

by brett gibson ~ January 29th, 2009
It has taken longer than we hoped but today we're happy to release what was our number one feature request, categories. There are still a few things we'd like to improve but we figured what we have now is more than useful. Add categories to your site via your site's admin page under "Settings" => "Categories":
More cool stuff is on the way. Stay tuned.

Virgin America goes slinkset!

by brett gibson ~ January 22nd, 2009
That's right...we just finished building a site for Virgin America used for promoting their new flights to Boston.  The site is here at revolutiontakesflight.com. And get this... Not only is Virgin America inviting 15 users and their guests to an exclusive party in Boston on February 11, 2009, BUT they're also flying a couple lucky Bostonians across the world for free just by participating on the site and "declaring your revolution". Oh! It gets even better... The site also has a section for users to submit and vote on their favorite Boston non-profit causes.  Virgin America is gifting $25,000 to Virgin Unite to support these organizations and $25,000 to a Boston cause of your choosing based on your votes.  That's some serious coin going towards the efforts of helping others and the community. So go check it out and if you're not lucky enough to be eligible to win passes to the party or a flight across the world...please forward the site on to your friends out in Boston.  Who knows, maybe they'll take you if they win.
*NEW FEATURE NOTE* For those of you who have been with slinkset for a while now, you'll notice a lot of new features on this Virgin America site.  One major one is the ability to add categories.  Look for this to be available to the public very soon.  As for some of the other features that you may notice...let us know if there is anything you see that you might want to use yourself.

"Fix the Lists" -- The People of 2008

by brett gibson ~ December 12th, 2008
Our friends over at Patrol Magazine have started a couple different sites for their end of the year "Fix the Lists" campaign.
On "The People of 2008" users are able to submit the people they feel have been most important this year.  Then as always with slinkset sites, you're able to vote on who you feel should be at the top and who should be at the bottom.  There are some interesting people on this list so far.  To name a few... Pope Benedict XVI, Cyndi Lauper, Evan Williams, oh man you just have to go see some of the other far out ones for yourself. The other, "Best Albums of 2008", where you the reader gets to fix the editor/critics picks of different Top 50 best albums of 2008 lists.  It's pretty interesting to see how much the list changes when the readers get a say in the matter. Fix the Lists!
