img Tags in HTML
by brett gibson ~ December 2nd, 2008
We released another small feature that we had ready behind the scenes and someone expressed interest in. You can now choose to let your users embed HTML
tags in comments and submission descriptions. Note that for now the "src" attribute for those images needs to end in an image extension ("png", "gif", "jpg" or "jpeg") for the image to appear. The option is under "Settings" => "Features":
Favicons!
by brett gibson ~ November 18th, 2008
If you're tired of the default blue and green arrows you can now add your own favicon to your site. It's under "Design" => "Advanced" => "General" and looks like this:
We've got some stuff we're working on that will hopefully use this image in more places than just the browser favicon. So upload an image and stay tuned.

More arrow sizes!
by brett gibson ~ November 6th, 2008
We made some decisions a while back that made it a pain to change the style of the up and down arrows. A few people perservered, but most were stuck with the default arrows. Well, we've just finished a backend overhaul of the design editor and it makes arrow changes a lot easier. So much so we added a few more arrows to choose from out of the box. Check it out on the "Advanced" design tab under "Links":
We're exicted. Look for more design editor upgrades soon.

Fix This, Barack
by brett gibson ~ November 6th, 2008
A really cool site got created early yesterday. Fix This, Barack is collecting suggestions for the new President Elect. The site has been very busy so far and already has a lot of good content. Hopefully someone will figure out a way to get Obama to take a look.
In related news, the site is running a little slow today and feed posting is delayed a bit. We're working on it.

Better Explained -- Share Your "AHA!" Moment
by brett gibson ~ October 23rd, 2008
Our friend Kalid over at Better Explained, has added the ability for his users to share their "aha!" moments by adding his own slinkset... links.betterexplained.
"There’s always a better way to explain a topic. Insights are fluid, mutable, and work for different people. I’m sharing the insights that helped me, hoping they’ll help you too." --Kalid
This site does a great job of explaining complex ideas in very simple terms for others to understand. Some of the topics covered are Math & Numbers, Programming & Web Development, Business, Writing & Communication. We suggest you go give it a look.

A Couple New Admin Options
by brett gibson ~ October 15th, 2008
A couple small features made the site admin area today along with a new "Features" tab to keep things organized. Now you can force the links on your site to open in a new window and you can keep submission descriptions off the list pages (e.g. "Recent" and "Popular").

Private Sites and Feed Readers
by brett gibson ~ October 9th, 2008
We hear a lot from people who can't use the feeds from their private sites in their feed readers. We've been using a work around for a while that we exposed to everyone today. You can now make the feeds for you private site public, but at the same time make the URLs for those feeds very long and difficult for others to guess. It's not going to be ideal for everyone but for a lot of people the security trade off is worth the convenience.
Find it on your "Feeds" admin page:

Non-Hacker News and Moderators
by brett gibson ~ September 29th, 2008
We're happy to acknowledge Non-Hacker News, a newly created site by Matt Maroon.
Matt explains why he created the site in his blog. Non-Hacker News is already seeing some really interesting content. We're excited enough that we've been participating in this one quite a bit ourselves.
In slightly related news (it's something we were working on and Matt asked for), we now have moderators. Site admin can give the designation of moderator to other users, who can in turn edit and kill links and comments. This fills the gap between normal users and site admins. Find it in your site's admin area under "Users".

Design Shizen takes slinkset "Green"
by brett gibson ~ September 18th, 2008
Environmental awareness is finally making headway thanks to the efforts of many people pushing the "go Green" idea. Jetson Green is one of the places helping this effort. They have an online magazine based around the "Green Building Revolution". Here you can find articles based on "green building, sustainable architecture, good design, clean technology in the built environment, and eco-friendly development."
They have recently used slinkset to add Design Shizen, an open community for green architecture, news, design, and innovation. They have some great incentives in place to boost participation. You can read about them here.
If you're at all interested in the cool innovations going on in the "Green" sector, I suggest you check these guys out.
